What’s the right call for Wilsonville’s equity committee?
On June 15, 2020, Wilsonville City Council approved the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan and directed staff to develop options to establish an equity committee to oversee the housing and other city-wide equity efforts. This article combines my career experience and research of best practices to offer a menu of choices for Wilsonville to consider.
Wilsonville City Council Approves Equitable Housing Plan, 5-0!
After a few hours of discussion, hearing from five people voicing support at public comment, and reading through numerous comments before the meeting, on June 15th the Wilsonville City Council unanimously voted (West motion and Lehan seconded) to approve the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan. Also, the Council voted (5-0) to direct staff to develop a proposal for an on-going committee to oversee equity on this plan and other efforts to address systemic and historic inequity.

Planning Commission acts on housing, calls for group to ensure equity!
On May 13 there was a public hearing before the Planning Commission on the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan. This recap will explain why this was a historic meeting for addressing inequity in Wilsonville, and prepare you for action at City Council on June 15.
